Guide to the Best Breakfast in Indianapolis

Its early Saturday morning. Outside of Westminster Apartments, the sparrows are singing, sunlight colors the sky, and you realize that youre feeling quite hungry. You search for best breakfasts in Indianapolis and browse through website after website. What to do with so many amazing options? There are pictures of beautifully presented plates, perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs, and sparkling mimosas each restaurant seems to offer a unique experience. We know its overwhelming, but dont worry. Weve got you covered. Our team at Westminster Apartments has curated a list of our favorite breakfast and brunch spots in Indianapolis.

1. Café Patachou

Founded in 1989 by Martha Hover, Café Patachou is a conduit for her unmatched expertise. As a six-time James Beard Foundation semifinalist, Martha is a recognized culinary celebrity, which has only increased the café’s visibility. Café Patachou offers classic breakfasts made with fine dining ingredients like artisan sourdough bread, spinach-jalapeno pesto, and Scotch Reserve smoked salmon. Martha and her team are also early pioneers of the slow-food movement, which aims to source local ingredients whenever possible. The croissant French toast and avocado broken yolk deserve special attention. One is a twist on a breakfast classic and the other is a mix of white cheddar, two eggs, and avocado on toast. Respected and loved by many, Café Patachou brings poise and charm to the art of breakfast.

2. The Garden Table

Located in the heart of Indianapolis, The Garden Table is a colorful hub for nutrition and health food enthusiasts alike. The elegant black and white menu pairs perfectly with the chic, exposed brick interior of their flagship store. Like the food, the atmosphere inside is fresh and tastefully modern.

Every menu on the item is alluring— the garden toast made with avocado, lemon, tomato, onion, and ricotta smear, the fried chicken sammie topped with onion jam, lettuce, and jalapeno aioli, and the fajita bowl packed with marinated beef, redskin potatoes, and homemade tomatillo salsa. On the sweeter end, patrons will love the blueberry hotcakes, honey butter toast, and acai bowl.

Of course, the centerpiece of the Garden Table offerings are the cold-pressed juices. These are meticulously crafted elixirs that have the power to bring balance to your day. The Garden Table team even offers juice cleansing programs designed to give your body a full reset by removing toxins and replenishing your system with revivifying nutrients. The Garden Table supports everyone on their journey towards a healthy lifestyle.

3. Metro Diner

Metro Diner is a national success with locations across the South and Midwest. Their Greenwood, IN location is just minutes from our community at Westminster Apartments and features a menu with seemingly infinite options. Like all good diners, Metro Diner is open from morning to evening, and offers breakfast/brunch, lunch, and dinner options. That said, this is a breakfast blog, so we’ll turn our focus there!

If you can imagine it, there’s a good chance that it’s on the menu. Here is just a small sample of what Metro Diner offers— cinnamon roll pancakes, fried chicken and waffle, southwest scramble, huevos rancheros, eggs benedict, poutine, and much more.

4. Yolk

Owner and founder Taki Kastanis grew up inside of the restaurant business, spending his most formative years working every type of job at his parents’ Chicago eateries. Naturally, the skills and knowledge necessary to run a successful business were transmitted to Taki, so that he was ready to open his first restaurant at the age of 20. In 2006, he launched Yolk in Chicago’s famous South Loop, and the rest is history.

The key to Yolk’s success is easy: they nail breakfast by taking calculated creative risks on their menu items. Take the breakfast mac & cheese for example, a morning mac loaded with ham, bacon, and topped with a sunny side up egg. Or browse through the “Sweet Specialties” section of the menu with sweet-leaning dishes like Nutella crepes, cinnamon roll French toast, and nutty monkey pancakes made with chocolate chips, peanut butter, and sliced banana. It makes sense why Yolk was voted the best breakfast in Indianapolis!

5. First Watch

First Watch is another nationally recognized restaurant with six locations in the greater metro area of Indianapolis. Their chefs have created a daytime-dining menu that reflects the changing of the seasons, or as they like to say, the menu is “inspired by the sun.” What this means is that each dish is prepared with seasonally relevant ingredients, like watermelon in summertime and fresh asparagus in the spring.

As you might expect, First Watch’s menu is focused on serving healthy and hearty options like the smoked salmon benedict, avocado toast, and steel-cut oatmeal. For those with a morning sweet tooth, they feature lemon ricotta multigrain pancakes, fruit topped French toast, and colorful juices served on ice. First Watch fans would agree— it’s all as good as it sounds. Lucky for residents of Westminster Apartments, the Greenwood location is just across County Line Road in the Greenwood S.C. shopping center. First Watch offers one of the most dynamic menus in town, and because it rotates seasonally, there’s a good chance that you’ll find new menu items when you come back again.

With the morning off to a great start, the city of Indianapolis opens. Whether it’s a classic American breakfast of eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns, a plate of maple syrup-soaked pancakes, or a fresh cold-pressed juice, your body will thank you for providing it with all the nutrients it needs to meet the day. At Westminster, we provide some of the city’s finest 1, 2, and 3 bedroom apartments and townhomes. Located in the neighborhood of Greenwood, our apartments are perfectly situated to access everything that Indianapolis has to offer, including these amazing eateries.
